Nourishing Hope: The Impact of Our School Feeding Programme
At Vertis, we believe that supporting education means addressing the whole child. That's why we're proud to continue supporting the school feeding programme at Future Hope School in Burundi, an initiative that's transforming lives one meal at a time. Libby and Craig, owners of Vertis, have donated to support this work for the whole year ahead, continuing what they started back in 2017.
How this programme is impacting school children
The true measure of impact comes from those who experience it every day: the students themselves.
Ange Milker, in Grade 6, shares: "Having meals at school helps us share with our classmates and saves learning time. Teachers explain lessons better and our parents no longer worry about preparing lunch. We are very happy and grateful."
Igiraneza Chany Olyna, a Grade 8 student adds: "The meals help us study better in the afternoon and give us enough time to revise our lessons. Students who live far away save time and energy. Teachers also have more time to help us and our results improve."
For Niyomutabazi Prince Danny, a Grade 9 student, the programme removes a significant daily burden: "Eating at school helps us avoid the long walk home and back, so we are not tired and can study well. Meals are well-organised in peace and safety."
The far-reaching effects of this programme are improved concentration and academic performance, better use of time in school, increased student happiness and motivation, reduced burden on families, and a nurturing school environment.
The teachers and students say, "The programme is not only feeding children. It is nourishing our education, dignity and hope for the future."
Making a Difference
We are delighted that this programme is creating lasting change and helping young people in Burundi build brighter futures for themselves and their communities.
