- Bright and attractive décor to inspire little minds
- Fixtures, fittings and furniture all at child height
- Lots of natural light to help aid concentration and promote wellbeing
- Good acoustics to ensure that small children are able to listen and focus well
- Adjustable temperature and ventilation, for a comfortable learning environment
- Easily accessible toilet and cloakroom facilities that children are happy to use
- Generous storage space
- Easy access to a safe outdoor space – for both playing and learning
Ideas for creative learning spaces
Now that you’ve got the practicalities sorted, it’s time to think about the kind of learning environment that will truly inspire children to be creative and use their imaginations. Here are some ideas for creative learning spaces for children:
- Display interesting exhibits at different points around the room to stimulate questions and discussion
- Incorporate a comfy and welcoming book corner where children can go to help themselves to a book whenever they like
- Involve children in the wall décor; display their work and let them make decorations to help make the space their own. You could even consider a class mural where everyone gets to make a mark on the space
- Ensure that you have dedicated spaces for groups, where small clusters of children can get together to talk, build or create
- Incorporate nature into the classroom. Indoor plants will improve the quality of the air while imparting a calming influence
- Learning spaces for children don’t have to be confined to four walls. Get outside to let children benefit both mentally and physically from exposure to the natural environment.
