Why Vertis Modular School Buildings?
Build for the future
We build to last. Our modular school buildings are made for a 50-year design life with minimal maintenance required. We promise a 10-year guarantee on the structure, and a 20-year guarantee on the roof covering.
A new learning opportunity
We work in term time and the holidays so you can get your building as soon as possible. We won’t get in the way – actually we think you’ll enjoy having us around. Your students can visit the site and get hands-on education about construction, sustainability and the environment.
Health and Safeguarding
The safety of everyone on site is a priority. We adhere to rigorous health and safety protocols, and for the safeguarding of young people we ensure that all our contractors have DBS Enhanced clearance.
Building Green
Wherever possible we use recycled materials and sustainably sourced timber. We prioritise energy efficiency, making classrooms that won’t cost you or the planet. And, for every completed building, we donate meals to feed a school of 350 children, in Burundi.
The best option for Educators
Choose Vertis with confidence because we’re experts and sustainable school buildings are our bread and butter. Educators helped design our modular school buildings with your needs in mind. In just over four months you can secure yourself a classroom built to last for generations.
DfE Compliant
Our buildings are compliant with Department for Education building bulletins. Everything from room size, lighting and ventilation are above and beyond what’s required. This compliance can grant schools extra merit from OFSTED.
Bespoke design
There’s flexibility for you in our base designs, but if it’s a completely bespoke school building you’re looking for, we can do that too. Just consider the extra costs involved – get in touch to let us know what you’re looking for.

The impact of a Vertis classroom
“We were able to adapt the design exactly the way we wanted it. The builders weren’t phased at all by the challenges of the terrain or the space, they were helpful in the planning process, and friendly and ready to explain what they were doing. They were excellent in their project management and follow-ups, and I am delighted with the outcome.”
Martin O'Grady
“Vertis were so approachable. They came to visit us, walked the site with us, talked to us, listened to what we wanted, and came up with a really good plan right from the outset.
The staff are really pleased with it. It’s given them the space and the capacity to develop the music groups, and the students have been so impressed. It’s given them a new lease of life in terms of music – it’s just done everything we wanted it to do.”
Linda Johnson, Head Teacher
“We call our new modular classrooms The Aviary, to fit in with our bird-themed class names. They are an excellent addition to the school, they provide additional teaching spaces and are in constant use. The building itself blends well with our environment and the children love going into the new classrooms.
Vertis were easy to work with, professional and reliable. We would work with them again.”
Tara Trail, Acting Head Teacher
Testimonial
"We are delighted with our Vertis Classroom! This additional classroom has released space within our main school building. Our modular classroom is an aesthetically pleasing, comfortable and engaging learning environment. Our experience of working with Vertis has been wholly positive.”
Lucy Chapman, Head Teacher
“The visual appeal and green credentials of the building were an important part of the development process and for this reason the school chose Vertis, a company known for its commitment to aesthetics, high quality finish and its use of sustainable and environmentally responsible materials in its constructions.”
Richard Lynn, Headmaster
I have no hesitation in recommending Vertis. They created an excellent nursery built to our own specification in a very tight space on a fully established school site. The contractors were respectful and courteous at all times. Working with Vertis has been a great experience and one that we hope to do again.

FAQs
What type of school buildings can you build modular?
Vertis specialises in building a wide variety of modular school spaces. These are often flexible, multi-purpose spaces that can accommodate a range of different activities and functions under one roof, including:
Single and double classrooms designed for everyday teaching and learning
Reception classrooms suitable for hands-on multi-sensory play and learning for younger children
Nursery buildings designed to encourage independence and meet the specific needs of early years learners
Library buildings that are bright, accessible spaces designed for reading and study
School halls for assemblies, PE, performances and school events
Music rooms which are dedicated spaces for developing music groups and instrumental teaching
All our modular school buildings can be customised with features such as wet and dry areas, built-in storage units, dedicated outdoor access, and specific layouts to suit modern teaching requirements. The modular approach allows for flexible, scalable designs that can range from single classrooms to large multi-purpose buildings.
How are modular school buildings constructed?
Vertis uses a streamlined modular construction process that minimises disruption to your school:
Off-site Construction: The buildings are constructed off-site in a factory using Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), which removes approximately 80% of the construction activity from your school site. This off-site approach ensures better construction quality management, less waste, and minimal disruption to daily school operations.
Materials: Our buildings use durable, eco-friendly materials including sustainably sourced timber and recycled materials where possible. The SIPs provide excellent insulation and create an extremely airtight structure for energy efficiency.
On-site Assembly: Once the groundwork and foundations are prepared, the pre-fabricated panels are delivered to your site and assembled. The construction can take place even during term time, as the process is swift and non-disruptive.
Finishing: The process includes internal fit-out, with coordination of fire, security, and data contractors. All Vertis contractors have DBS Enhanced clearance for safeguarding purposes. The buildings are delivered with energy efficient heating and ventilation and are designed to maximise natural light.
Sustainability Features: All standard builds achieve an Energy Performance Certificate score of A. The buildings use lightweight designs that don't require concrete foundations, and the construction process minimises waste. For every completed building, Vertis donates a 500 square metre woodland to the National Trust Plant a Tree campaign.
All Vertis buildings come with a 10-year structural guarantee and a 20-year roof guarantee, making them a long-term investment for any educational setting.
How long does it take to build a modular school building?
Vertis modular school buildings can be completed in as little as 8 weeks from start to finish.
The typical timeline includes:
Initial consultation and site visit – Vertis comes to your school to assess your needs and challenges
Design and planning – Proposal of solutions using preset designs or completely bespoke options, followed by review of timings, costs, and installation logistics
Contract signing and scheduling – Finalising agreements and scheduling the build
Below-ground work – Foundation preparation
Above-ground construction – The main construction phase including assembly and internal fit-out
Final handover – Landscaping completed and building ready for use
Which type of schools can we construct modular buildings for?
Vertis has built modular buildings for a wide range of educational settings, having completed over 100 modular school buildings. Typical use cases are where schools need accessible, purpose-built spaces, specialist rooms (music, art, libraries), have somewhat challenging terrain or limited space, and are looking for eco-friendly, sustainable building solutions
Our experience includes:
Infant, Junior and Primary Schools:
Schools requiring additional classroom space or modern teaching environments such as this reception classroom for Worstead Primary School.
Tier three to tier two school building conversion projects such as Sutton Primary and Northill Academy.
Secondary Schools:
Private schools needing specialist facilities such as a Religious Studies hub for Sutton Valence School.
Grammar schools needing a high quality bespoke classroom such as Dixie Grammar School.
Academies expanding their teaching capacity (such as Weatherfield Academy where one classroom became five)
Independent schools needing a dedicated music faculty building such as Perrot Hill School.
Early Years Settings:
Nurseries and preschools such as this new modular nursery for Wilderness Nursery.
The modular school building approach is particularly suited to schools facing space pressures, and it can free up much needed space fast, within the main school building.
Vertis works with schools to create bespoke solutions that fit their specific requirements, budget, and site constraints.
